No ROM, no support?

There are a number of Palm OS licensees (Sony, Kyocera) who do not always provide developers with the "ROM" files that they need to load into the simulator or emulator to test applications against the hardware.

Don't drop the hamsters

A juggler keeps many balls, chainsaws and hamsters in the air at once. We have a network of computers that we keep amazingly busy, especially when we are in the middle of a beta. Many things are going on all the time. We have computers that are compiling code. We have computers where we are talking with our customers. We have computers that are busy printing out flyers, doing web work, running backups, or what have you. Many times, we will set up an otherwise idle computer to run "Gremlin Hordes."

Reeling in a release

Like a marlin on the line, leaping and thrashing about in the ocean with a painful hook in its mouth, a software release does have a life of its own. It fights you. It does not willingly allow itself to be taken from the freedom of development into the captivity of customer hands. You have to strap down the exhausted developers in their swivel chairs, apply sunblock, cheese doodles and Dr. Pepper and follow that feisty fish until it is finally landed.

There's always the possibility that either the line or the developers will snap, too.

Installergeists

Installers are so pesky! We have some of the leading products for building installers. We have written a ton of Applescripts to smooth the process and each time, the installers come up with some new symptom to keep things from working the way they should. It is uncanny.

I think that the installers are possessed.

Why else would we not be able to build the Mac installer between beta 3 and beta 4?

Definitely Installergeists.
