What are those little yellow triangle icons doing in my outline??

Problem:

Little yellow warning triangles are appearing in Life Balance on the desktop. What do they mean?

Solution:

They are conflict icons. If you have changed the same task, place, or event in conflicting ways on the desktop and handheld, after synchronizing, a conflict icon will appear on the left of the item in the Outline, To Do List, Balance, Calendar, or Place panels as appropriate. When you click on the icon, a dialog box appears which will ask you to reconcile the conflict by choosing to either keep the information from the desktop or from the handheld.

You may not see conflict icons in the To Do List if the conflicting task is filtered out by your current settings. However, you can tell if you have any conflicts because there will be space left for the icon between the color bar and the checkbox in all the lists if you have any conflicting tasks. You can then switch to the Outline to look for the conflicts.

You don't have to immediately resolve all conflicts. If you don't modify the conflicted task on either platform, then the conflict will stay unresolved. If you do make a change to the task, then the synchronization algorithm will do the conflict check again; if you've changed the task such that both versions have the same info, then the conflict will go away.

The handheld version actually knows nothing about conflicts. Only the conduit and desktop application know about conflicts and we only store the resolution info in the desktop file. We do this to keep the Palm version uncluttered both in terms of memory usage and user interface.
