.NET framework 1.1 information

Here's the morning news from LLNN, the Llama News Network:
The installer for Life Balance v3.1.1 was written for .NET framework 1.0, and won't run with higher versions of the framework.
Microsoft recently released .NET framework 1.1, and version 1.0 is not available from their web site.
We are going to make .NET framework 1.0 and service pack 2 available from our web site as an immediate workaround while we determine the best way to correct the problem in the installer.
We should have more information for you in a few hours.
Best wishes,

RE: .NET framework 1.1 information
I updated to .NET 1.1 this morning and have used LB for Windows OK since then. So I assume the problem is only with the installer (i.e. when first installing the application) and not with running LB for Windows. I'm running Windows XP Pro.
Regards,
SAM
RE: .NET framework 1.1 information
Yes, you are quite right about that.
It is only a problem with the installer, not with Life Balance itself. We are testing a new installer now, so as soon as it is ready, we'll post it.

RE: .NET framework 1.1 information
Hi there,
We posted a new installer last night about 8 pm Eastern time on friday night 4/11/2003.
This one is a web based installer. If you don't have .NET framework preinstalled, it will go find it, download it and install it.
The .NET framework install requires a reboot, so run the Life Balance installer again after the reboot to get the full installation.
And PLEASE post back here if you have any trouble with the new installer, or just let us know that it worked for you!
Thanks,

RE: .NET framework 1.1 information
Hi
I already had .NET 1.1 installed when I bought the LB 3.1.1 upgrade. And despite uninstalling .NET 1.1 and letting the LB desktop program installer govern the downloading of .NET, version .NET 1.1 was installed, and LB will still not install.
My computer is running W2k professional, service pack 3.
Thankful for any help

Can you tell us what error message you get when you try to install LB?

RE: .NET framework 1.1 information
Never mind. I found the problem with the installer and I'm uploading a fix now. I just forgot to take out the old .NET 1.0 code after I added the .NET 1.1 code.

RE: .NET framework 1.1 information
It's all ok now - when we returned from Easter vacation I tried again. In the meanwhile I understand you have upgraded LB to support .NET 1.1. Now I enjoy having the desktop version, quite a difference from having to do everything on the small Palm screen.

RE: .NET framework 1.1 information
Hi, I just installed a trial copy of LB on my Palm and am interested in also trying out the Windows companion.
I realize this is not directly LB related, but I'm having problems with the .NET 1.1 installer, itself. Its Setup consistently fails with "Error 1317: an error occurred while attempting to create the directory C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs", whether I use the WindowsUpdate install path or LB's recent Windows installer. My only interest in installing .NET 1.1 is to try out LB Windows.
I'm using WinXP Pro at home, trying to install .NET 1.1 with an Administrator-level account, and I'm an experienced user (MCSE). My first thought in these situations is that I might have locked down my system with too much security, so I relaxed several things, but without any resolution. I spent about 5 hours last night, though, trying many ways to resolve the error, including checking Microsoft's KnowledgeBase and MSDN online. Has anyone run across this error before? If not, I'll continue to assume it's a local problem.
In the meantime, I'll enjoy exploring LB on the Palm side.
RE: .NET framework 1.1 information
Here's an update to the problem that I just reported with installing .NET Framework 1.1 on my PC: I was able to successfully install it (and LB Windows) on a "pristine" WinXP partition. Although I'm not sure yet what the problem is on my primary home system, at least it allowed me to see LB Windows in action. I suspected it was a local problem and this confirmed the nature of the problem. I'll work on the primary image problem in my spare time. Neeevermind....
RE: .NET framework 1.1 information
Hi there LlamaBen,
We always appreciate it when there is a follow up on an issue like this one. Otherwise we tend to worry about mysterious messages like that! It really helps us save time on the Hunt for Red Herrings. (A great thriller about a software company president who plans to defect to... never mind!).
Your experience may save someone else some trouble later.
Thanks again for taking the time to post! :-)
