Life Balance/DayNotez users

There does appear to be an issue with Life Balance entries and the new DayNotez v3.0 beta software. Since LB writes directly to the DN database it has causes issues with the new fields in DN3 such as the photo field. Here is Natara's reply to this issue:
"LifeBalance should be using the DayNotez SDK to create the new entry. But, given the results you are seeing there's a good chance that LifeBalance is creating the record in the DayNotez database directly. Of course they do not know about the new fields, so are creating an invalid record.
We will have to get them to update the software.

Actually, I think between the llamas, and the folks at Natara this problem has been licked.
RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
I know that Natara has added some error trapping code as a work-around. I guess the Llamas will change the way LB works in the next release.

Right, and here is a request (I know I'm supposed to email them with requests but I think this is appropriate), when writingtothe DN database please apply a Life Balance "tag" or some way to have a Life Balance category in DN so that one may sort by LB notes, or be able to purge LB notes.
RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
BTW, using the latest 3.0.1 release of Daynotez, the photo icon problem coming from Life Balance completed tasks still exists. It doesn't seem to happen all the time, but I still have several instances each day of this issue.
The last post I saw on the Natara Daynotez beta forum indicated that they suspected that the photo id field was (at times anyway) containing information which they interpreted as a photo reference.
Seems like Life Balance should defintely switch to using the Natara Daynotez API rather than writing directly into their databases.

RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Are you an LB desktop user? I find that currently only entries that are checked off via the desktop come up with the photo icons assigned to them, and not all of those have them.
RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Hello,
I'm sorry for the recent family tragedy. We undertand that you needed a timeout.
Feedback on the DayNotez issue will be greatly appreciated. Although we don't expect an immediate fix, it will be nice to know the estimated waiting time / priority.
Thank You,
Best regards

RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Hello, does anyone have experience with the DayNotez 3 and LB issues? I'm wondering if I'm gonna take the risk or not. What are the consequences of using these products together? Will this result in corrupted data in DN? crashes? inconsistencies? Or are the issues just cosmetic?
Can anyone with good/bad experiences with DN3+LB give their input so that we better can judge whether to wait or give it a try.
Thanks a lot,
Regards folium
RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
I have been a long, long time user of both Life Balance, and DayNotez. I've always used the two together - having LB record it's completed tasks in DN. However, when I installed DN3, I started having issues.
DN3 added the ability to have photos assigned to entries, and LB causes issues with that aspect. Apparently, LB writes directly to the DN database, and since the database format was changed in DN3, the entries LB writes causes a problem which appears to be related to the photo entry portion of the database.
The problem doesn't occur all the time - some folks indicate it seems to occur mainly on entries which were completed on the desktop portion of LB - not sure. I just know it completely de-stabilized my DN3 to the point where I could no longer use it.
The LB team has been asked to use DN's API instead of writing directly to the database, but as of yet that change hasn't happened.
I was forced to uninstall DN3, and reinstall DN2 (including having the DN desktop overwrite the Palm's database).
I would never recommend anyone use DN3 and LB at this point - at least if you are having LB record completions in DN.
RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Hi there,
We thought we had this ironed out from the DayNotez end but ...not quite. We'd recommend not jumping into DayNotez 3 until we can get the photo info problem worked out. We're aware. Palm Life Balance 3.2.9 does not have any special accomodation for DayNotez 3. Life Balance 3.2.9 is included in the Vista/.NET 2.0 Life Balance 3.3 for Windows package being released today - just so you understand that there is no DN3 adaptation in that package.

RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Well, I mainly use the LB/Palm version and I am not having problems with LB/DN3 interacting at this time. However, when I do check of items via LB/DT then I often do find item in DN3 with the photo icon mistakenly attached to them. I can remove them if I wish, but it's mainly an irritant and doesn't affect DN3's usability.
RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Hi all,
FYI -- This was recently fixed in one of the recent beta builds, so it will be in the next release for the Palm side.
Best wishes,

RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
I just downloaded Version 3.0.2 Build 2539 of DayNotez. I've enabled the preference in LB to record completed tasks in NataraDayNotez. When I check-off and update a task in LB, I see no change in DayNotez. What am I missing.
RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Hello,
See Catherine's response above - we have fixed the problem caused by DayNotez change in their database and the fix will be in the next release.
So... you aren't missing anything.

RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Thanks,
Any idea when the next release is coming out?
RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Hello there Wook,
Thanks for asking. The "when" question... (*Sigh* I will try again)... I know that you are asking a simple straightforward, well intentioned question. It just has a way too complicated answer... especially right now.
I know that there are other people wondering the same thing.
The SHORT answer:
I don't know. We push forward. When we've got it, we post. However, that sounds like I'm being flip, and I'm not. It's just in the nature of how we need to work at this point.
The Background:
As has been mentioned elsewhere, my aunt was sick and she needed us. Answers to all the "when" questions were turned upside down by cancer. Her care was the top priority. I have no regrets about that choice. I have a lot of faith in our customers to understand that family had to come first.
Now, we just have to take everything one step at a time as we regroup and push these builds along to you.
The Process:
We are steady and determined about the builds. Development builds happen every week, sometimes several times per week. It's a continuous process. Many of these get posted to our beta team. We try not to post more than one build per week to the betas because they are all volunteers, and they get overwhelmed if we post too often. Sometimes the betas will bring up issues that take more than a week to resolve, so we'll post to them when we have a significant improvement, or something specific that we want feedback on. There is a lot of back and forth with the betas. When to post is always a judgement call. Once the nature of the incoming beta reports changes on the Llama Release Scale from *Gasp* to really kind of *Nit Picky*, we'll be able to tell that one of those builds is worthy and we take the steps necessary to make it available to you. :-)
We have another beta build posting to the beta team today that we've put a lot of work into in the last few weeks. We'll see what kind of feedback we get on that.
The posting process itself generally does not take long. Usually, we can run with it once we feel like we've got the build!
About DayNotez:
Specific to DayNotez... Unfortunately, we spoke too soon on having a fix for the DayNotez support. The betas reported back to us that the problem was not completely fixed, although we had definitely improved things for the DayNotez folks on our beta team.
In addition to the changes that we made earlier which do work if you are just running the Palm app, we also need to make the corresponding set of changes in the conduit. Unfortunately, the DayNotez routines are not designed to be called from a conduit. They are only designed to be called from a Palm app.
To do the right thing, we have to add some bridge code to our conduit, to call our Palm app to call the DayNotez routine to make the changes in their database that need to happen at sync time. It's a little... more involved than we expected it to be.
I hope that clarifies the situation for you. (I wish it were clearer for us!)
Anyway, thank you all for supporting us through thick and thin.
Best wishes,

RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Just to follow up on this, we have finished testing the changes to the conduit that I mentioned, and they are now working.
So, we do now have a complete fix worked out for our DayNotez folks, which will be in the next release... which will be posted once we have worked through the remaining (non nit picky) beta issues. Luckily the number of those is diminishing!

RE: Life Balance/DayNotez users
Catherine,
Thank you for taking time to update this thread. I certainly understand how personal issues can take priority at times. I also understand and appreciate why you won't "ship" a product before it's ready.
FYI, Life Balance is THE program I had been looking for since I got my first Palm-based device (Handspring Visor). Using your software along with a modified (David Allen) GTD outline, keeps me organized. I'm demoing DayNotez and so far, it looks like a great application. Once everything works, it will be even better!
Thanks again.
