Using DateBk4 Repeats
I have been a registered user for nearing a month and am still climbing a horribly steep learning curve.
I have completed my first 'system design' and am now trying to implement it using DateBk4 as my diary app. I have several regular activities defined (pay credit card, claim expenses etc) that repeat on a specific date and for these I am trying to use the DateBk4 Floating agenda items. Unfortunately I cannot make LB recognise the next instance after the first has been checked off.
Is this not possible or am I missing something?
Any help to ease the frustration would be much appreciated.
Regards
Chris

Request for clarification:
You mentioned both Floating Events, and Repeats.
Floating Events are "appointments" and Repeats are Todo's, which are you using?

DateBk4 'Floats' are modified appointments orriginally included to simulate ToDos. They have the basic functionality of appointments except if not ticked off on the due date they move forwards with time exactly like a ToDo.
Their advantage is that they can be repeated with the full set of functions available for appointments. ToDos (in DateBk4) can only be repeated by a definable number of days.
Additional Information:-
I am running LB out of Flash on an m505. Yesterday, after lots of changes and much revision of links I managed to get LB to the state where it was unable to display the To Do List correctly. Places were all correct, Outline unchanged and places properly assigned. Suddenly, on opening LB the To Do List was reduced from a couple of screens to 4 items. No amount of changing would rectify the situation (changing the To Do List places button to a place containing a large portion of my Outline - checked in the Ouline View - simply gave an empty list). I had no time to fiddle and so simply restored all of the LB data files from previous nights backup. Every thing then returned to normal.
I have no idea what I had done, but if this is indicative of a faulty set up perhaps other issues are explained?

Hi -
Life Balance software application will work correctly from flash memory but you cannot put the data on the flash. Life Balance will not work correctly in that configuration.

DB4 Floats should work just fine, even repeating one. Only disadvantage is have to check them off in two places.
I would suspect the reason you think it's not attached to the next occurrance is that it's not in your todo list after you check off the first occurance. If that's the case it's probably because the next occurance is farther in the future than 2 times the lead time you have set.
RE: Using DateBk4 Repeats
After spending a couple of days (on and off) trying to get the links to work, I simply deleted them all and started again. I changed so many things that it got to the point where I didnt know what I had done.
It may be that I was fooled by the ToDo list as you suggest. Having thought about it some more (without the Palm in my hand) I suspect that a better understanding of the link sequance would help (for example knowing that Floats require to be checked off in both DB4 and LB). Is there a more detailed description / spec. somewhere, or do you just have to grow a long wooly coat before you know these things?

RE: Using DateBk4 Repeats
Three places to look.
a) Some of it is documented in the FAQs very briefly. The FAQs are near the Advice book on this web site.
b) Search the forums for Datebk4
c) Look in the Palmanack found at:
http://org.qixo.com/palmanack/prlb/
Otherwise just ask, a number of use have been using DB4 for a long time.

Ratz's comment is probably right on target. I use either repeating floating events or repeating untimed appointments with LB items tied to them in the same manner as you do. I have the item set to "By Datebook" and linked with the appropriate DateBk4 event. I also typically have the items with a 1 day lead time.
After checking off the item as complete, the item will NOT show up until 2 days (2 x 1 day lead time) before the next time it repeats in the date book. That is how it should be and all is well in the universe. You can take at look at the item in LB and check the next date it is due to show up. Look under the Time tab.
Except...
Also make sure, if you use floating events, that you check off the floating event in your datebook as done. I had some problems with this so stopped using floating events in favor of untimed appointments. For some reason, sometimes the floating event would "float," even when done, to the next day and the item in LB would uncheck itself and show up days or weeks early. I think this is a DateBk4 problem, not an LB problem.
