How Do I mark confrences as read?

I chose the option to manualy mark as read in the user preferences screen, but I can't figure out how to mark them- the interface is exactly as it was before, and I don't see any way to mark a confrence?

Marking Conferences as read
Hi -
In order to mark a conference as read, you must be logged in and at the conference level (i.e. the list of Technical Support entries) not in a thread. Click on the little blue clock at the top of the page to mark the conference. You can also mark the entire forum as read from the top page (list of conferences).

Oops- My real problem was I accidentally voted for Buchanen (sp?):o
I *thought* I had turned on manual mark-as-read, when I had actually set a different option. No wonder I couldn't find the icon!
(And they actually let me work on production code? hmmm....)
