Fatal Exception error @ launch

Donald's picture

Hello and..... help.

I am having a problem with Llamagraphics, and I'm desperately hoping you can help.
I checked the discussion boards for info on Fatal Exceptions.... but didn't find anything to help with this circumstance...
This is my story....

This morning, I turned on my Palm IIIc, launched Bejeweled, and as I was waiting for the game to load, I depressed the green power button, in order to increase the brightness of my display. When I did this, I received a Fatal Exception error. OK, that doesn't sound like an issue for you, BUT

RE: Fatal Exception error @ launch

I simply couldn't wait....
I copied the back up versions of places, preferences, outline and the LB .PRC itself, to a floppy.
Deleted the same files from my c: drive and palm. Hotsync'd.
Hotsync'd again. (just to ensure LB was gone....)

Then, very scientifically, did the following...
installed LB - then hotsync'd - no FE (Fatal Exception) - good
installed places - then hotsync'd - no FE - still good :P
installed outline - then hotsync'd - no FE - really good :D
installed saved preferences then hotsync'd - no FE - GREAT !! :7

Yippeee....

keeping my fingers crossed.
Donald

p.s. love your product, and your fast service... I just couldn't stand to be with out my LB for the whole day ;-)

FYI - for our User Forum readers... this customer query was mostly handled via email.

RE: Fatal Exception error @ launch

I have missed the reply on your help request...

What i bet is the problem, is that you have deleted all the things from Life BAlance - fatal error happens when you delete all todos and TLIs, simply everything.

Be well, Tomas (who also struggled with this problem.....)

Tomas...
I don't really know what happened.... But I had no empty lists, to dos etc... It was a while ago now, and its human nature to block out those unpleasant memories...but this is all that happened.

I turned on my Palm IIIc, launched Bejeweled, and tried to adjust the brightness as the game was loading. This caused a soft reset demand from the Fatal Exception error. Following that, every time I launched LB, I immediately got the FE error, and need to reset. It only happens with Life Balance.

I often 'work ahead' of my pc at work, (Windows 2000/NT Back office services). Sometimes working ahead, with my Palm is ok, and other times it is not.... In this circumstance I must have written to a back block of memory (?).

Either way, a re-install of the PRC, and a reload from the archive brought 95% of my data back. (whew)

Interestingly enough, the only things that didn't come back were empty 'sub-category' headings. Possible reason: the archive was made before the creation of these sub-head, so they didn't make the back up.

Anyway ... Most important 'take aways':
1) DON'T do a back-up, if you suddenly get repetative fatal errors.
2) Ask lots of questions first. ( I know PCs and networking backwards, but I'm just a 'user' in the Palm world.)
