NEEDINFO: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
on LBMAC 3.0.5
running OS10.1.5
Had been running fine, now won't start up "....unexpectedly quit..."
crash log says:
Command: Life Balance
PID: 300
Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x0193921e
tried restarting, same thing, only took a bit longer- hung before the error message
any suggestions?

RE: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
Hi There,
The first thing I would recommend that you try is to update to 3.0.6, which has a number of fixes and an enhancement or two.
You can download that from the downloads page, if you have a license for 3.0.x, the license will continue to work with 3.0.6:

Let me know if that helps.
We would like to figure out where that crash is coming from. Could we get some additional detail about the situation? Is there anything else that might have changed between the time that Life Balance was working and now? Do you know what was happening at the time that the crash occurred?
Is there anything unusual about your set up that we would need to know about?
Thanks,

Hi- thanks for the reply.
I updated to 3.06 right after I posted the message. Voil
RE: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
Glad to know that all is well now.
Hmm. That is interesting about the recent Quicktime 6.0 install. Life Balance does use Quicktime. I wouldn't expect Quicktime 6 to cause us any substantial difficulty though.
We'll check it out just in case.
Thanks for letting us know that you are back up and running again.
We llamas worry so. :-)

RE: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
I've had this same problem. It occurs either when I first try to start the program, or when I synch the Palm and the window opens back up (after closing during synch). Every time it happened before today if I attempted to open LB again it would open and I could continue without major loss ... but ...
Today I couldn't get LB to open at all. Same error over and over. Bummer. So, I pulled the preference file and it opened to the default file and I switched it back to mine. Closing and reopening with my LB file open causes the same result. Pulled prefs again, looks like if I close my file before quitting I don't see the problem, but I have to close the default file and open my file every time, which is already irritating. Want a crash log or a copy of my LB file for testing?
Oh, I recently installed the QT6 upgrade myself. However, I'd seen this problem before that (although not with this level of consistency).
RE: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
This problem was resolved for the other person by installing the update for Life Balance 3.0.6. They were running 3.0.5.
Have you tried installing/reinstalling 3.0.6 and seeing if that resolves what you are seeing?
Let me know if we need to look into this further.
Best wishes,

RE: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
Yep, I'm running 3.0.6 - I recently upgraded and it is the only version I've run to date.

We had another person yesterday who reinstalled 3.0.6 after installing QT6 and that took care of it.
This seems a little strange to us since Stuart installed QT6 and all is well here. So there must be something else... model of Mac? Exact OS version?
Luckily the workaround is fairly simple regardless.

RE: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
I just reinstalled and it seems to be working, at least for the moment.
I'm on a G4 867, stock except for some added memory. OS 10.1.5
RE: DUN: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
It did it again.
I had put an alias of my data file in (on?) the dock. When I click on the icon in the dock to open the program I get the "Unexpectedly quit" message. It WAS working okay.
But... If I launch the program first, then open the data file, it works okay. Go figure.
RE: DUN: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
Hmm.
Thanks. Would it be possible for you to send your data file and maybe the prefs to support@llamagraphics.com so that we can tell if it is a problem with the data or with the prefs?
Also have you tried to reinstall 3.0.6 and did it help?
Thanks, really not sure what is going on with this yet, but having more information is great.

RE: DUN: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
Well.......
I'm sorry but it's working fine again. Darned if I know what's different. I did not re-install the software. I can't get it to repeat the error today.
Maybe something with the restart, or timing with respect to hotsync...
Anyway, let me see if I can find a pattern to this. I'll post an update if it continues. Thanks for your interest.

I have same problem RE: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
I"m having a similar problem.
If I try to launch either the lifebalance program or my calendar file from the dock, I get the message that LifeBalance has unexpectedly quit. (Not everytime, but most times).
However, if I launch the program or file from the Finder, then I don't get this error.
I use MAC OS 10.5 and LB 3.0.6.
I'm using LB from a nonadministrative user account. (E.g., there are two users on my system...one is the administrative one that I only use for installing programs. The other is my daily account).
RE: I have same problem RE: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
In my previous message, I mean System 10.1.5
RE: I have same problem RE: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
Thanks for the details, I have responded to your other post. This thread described a somewhat similar sounding problem. We have not been able to reproduce this dock problem here to figure out the underlying cause yet.

RE: DUN: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
Hi
Me too!
Here's my scenario. I have my data file in the dock. I'm running 3.0.6 on 10.1.5. All has been well for a long time.
I have changed one thing since my last sync - no, not QT 6: I ran Apple's Repair Priveleges 1.1 util just to see whether Apple thinks / should be group writable (sendmail won't run if it is, but I digress...) It presumably did some stuff, then I did a "sudo chmod g-w /" to make sendmail happy again.
Some time later (days, and a couple of reboots) I sync'ed with my Palm. I got this message in the log:
Loading
RE: DUN: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
A quick follow-up: I upgraded to WindowShade X 2.1.1 and the problem seems to have gone away. We'll see.
And another follow-up: I found the thread on this site about "data integrity mode" and got the "incorrect wish level" message to go away. It seems it has nothing to do with this issue after all.
Thx

RE: DUN: CrashX: Unexpectedly quit
Hi there JohnT,
Thanks for the detailed information on what you saw when you got this maddeningly intermittent error.
By the way, running on Jaguar also seems to be a really good idea. Apple fixed many problems in prior Mac OS X releases including some that seem to affect Life Balance depending on what else is installed or how long the Mac has been running, phase of the moon, etc.
The crash log seems to point to us calling a Mac OS routine in the control manager, which then, due to an bug in the OS, goes off into random code in the Mac OS. The crash log does not appear to be in Life Balance code when it fails. From what we can tell, this seems to be fixed in Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar. So upgrading to Jaguar may be the best course of action if you see this problem return.
I'm glad to know that you are back up and running now, and we'll look into the possible connection to WindowShade as well.
Thanks again for letting us know.
Best wishes,
