Effort in Task vs Subtasks

I really like using the subtask feature in the outline. But I am unclear as to how effort is handled at the parent level of the task. LB seems to give you the ability to independently set the effort of task that has subtasks. This doesn't make sense to me. Should the effort of the parent task be determined by the effort estimated for the underlying subtasks?

RE: Effort in Task vs Subtasks

Effort is the credit you get for checking off that task...it doesn't matter if it is a parent or child task. So set the effort of the parent task to just that extra effort the parent requires aside from that of the child tasks. If the parent is just a placeholder for organization purposes then you could set its effort to none.

RE: Effort in Task vs Subtasks

Great. I was worried that if I had no effort for the task parent, it would apply/diminish the effort of its children. Thanks for the clarification.

RE: Effort in Task vs Subtasks

Hi there,

Just a quick clarification. While the effort is only used for awarding credit, the parent value will be used to set the default value for any new subtasks.

So if you want to use this technique, set the parent project value after you have the section set up, or be a little careful to set the subtask as you would like it in the task details.

Best wishes,
