Change default page

Hi,
How can the default file be changed? When LB starts I want it to open my file not this default untitled file.
I've checked the preferences but found nothing.

RE: Change default page

Hi Newtonite,

If you quit out of Life Balance without first closing the document window, then it will remember all the documents open at the time you quit.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions.

Good idea to save the outline..... just don't close it!

RE: Change default page

Hi Scott,
Tried that and it didn't work. Even saved it and closed it but when I opened LB again, I got an 'untitled' defult file again. Any other suggestions?

RE: Change default page

You recently said that you "saved it and closed it"

Just don't close the file before you quit.

If you just save and quit you should be fine. Life Balance will reopen with the files from the last set of open windows.

RE: Change default page

Hi Catherine,
I've tried your advice and when I close LB with my file open, I still get the untitled default file when I next open LB. Where can I find this file? Maybe if I delete it'll help.

Hi there Hellene,

Are you running on Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X?

RE: Change default page

Hi there Hellene!

Let's see if we can break this down into very small steps and figure out what is happening since it is likely to be something small that we are overlooking at some particular step.

Just to be sure, are you running Life Balance v3.1.1?

Here's the steps and what we expect to happen at each point. Let us know if anything is different than described, since that may identify what is happening.

1) Launch Life Balance

At this point, from what you've said, you get a new Untitled window containing the sample data.

2) Change the first item in the sample data to read "Catherine says hello!" Be sure to click on another record just to be sure that the change in the text is really committed.

This way we know that the sample data is now customized.

3) Select QUIT from the file menu.

On Mac OS X, a dialog "sheet" should appear that offers for you to save the file since it is now different.

4) Save the file to the Documents folder on Mac OS X with the filename "Test for Catherine"

5) Launch Life Balance again.

At this point, I would expect Life Balance to launch and open the file "Test for Catherine", which will have the first item modified from the sample data.

If that doesn't happen the way we expect, then we can try a different test, but by using the file menu to create a new empty file first to see if that changes the behavior.

Thanks for being patient with us as we try to figure out what exactly is happening for you. I'm sure that this would be easier if we could see your screen while you work! :-)

RE: Change default page

Hi Catherine,
Thanx for your help!
Firstly, I'm running LB 3.0.5 - should this affect it?

Secondly, I've done all you suggested and when I open LB, I get a new 'Untitled' file with the sample todos - 'earn a living' etc

Thirdly, created new file. Saved it as I was quitting. Opened LB and got the 'Untitled' file again...

Any other suggestions besides upgrading to 3.1.1 - which I'll do this evening? It's a real pity you can't access my iBook.
Cheerio,
Hellene

RE: Change default page

AHA! Woo hoo! We have a winner!

That problem has been fixed for so long, I'm glad I asked what version you were running!

In the release notes for 3.0.6, posted July 9 2002:

"Added code to automatically reopen the documents that were open when Life Balance was last quit. Note that this feature will not work if you close the documents in Life Balance before quitting."

The 3.1.1 update is a free update, so all you have to do is download and install it. The license code you have for 3.x will continue to work in 3.1.1.

I highly recommend that you download and install the latest version since we have fixed lots of things since 3.0.5!

You can find the complete current set of release notes at the following page on our web site:

http://www.llamagraphics.com/LB/MergedReleaseNotes.html

At the bottom of the screen, there are links to the prior release notes for the Mac, which will take you back even further to see all the work we've done since the initial release for the Mac! If you want a direct link you can get to the 3.0.6 release notes here:

http://www.llamagraphics.com/LB/MacReleaseNotes.html

We knew we would have some things to work out after the first release, which was posted as soon as possible because our existing Palm customers were...how shall we say... eager to have the desktop software immediately if not sooner. So, we came out with several minor free releases which contained both nice features and fixes that we put in as soon as possible after the first release.

You'll definitely want to update to 3.1.1 as soon as you can!

Thanks for being patient with us while we figured out what the situation was!

You didn't download that 3.0.5 file recently from a web site that we need to make sure has the latest? You had that installed for a while? Let me know!

Hi Catherine,
THANX!!! for your help and patience. Glad it was a simple issue - still trying to install 3.1.1 but something always comes up.
Thank you for your wonderful support though!
