How to not show projects (as oposed to tasks)
Hello,
I am struggling with projects, that I use as subcategories. For example I have one category that is teaching and inside that category I have a project for each course and inside that course I have the different tasks I want to put on my to-do list (grade assignment, prepare example, ...), now at some times there are no tasks to do :-) then in the To Do List the course appears as such. I know that this is not a real task but it clutters the ToDo List.
Is there a way to tell LB that some tasks are actually projects (or sub-categories)? I do not want to promote those as categories because in that case I would have way to many categories and the prioritization scheme would not be efficient anymore.
What would be really Ideal (but I guess this is more for the wish list of a new release), is that in the ToDo list the subcategory (i.e. the task to which a subtask belongs) appears (you can see it in the details, but then you have to click on each task). For the moment I end up repeating the name of the task in the subtask. (for example "grade assignment 2" that is a subtask of "coursename", I give it the name "coursename - grade assignment 2") This works but is not very userfriendly...
Thanks for your suggestion and nice work!
Philippe

Hi Phillipe, I have created
Hi Phillipe,
I have created a place called zHidden (the "z" keeps it at the bottom of my list of places) that is always closed. For what you have described as Projects, I create a dummy sub-task (called "Dummy task") and set its place as zHidden. When all the "real" tasks have been completed, there will still be the dummy task, but it won't ever appear.
Sometimes, however, I like to be reminded that there are no other tasks. If this is the case, I will name the top task (or "project") along the lines of "Check if there are more assignments to grade" so that if I have graded all the assignments I had, then the next task I see will remind me to check if there are any more before I close the whole project. :)
As for repeating the coursename for each task, I do a similar thing (I also teach), but I only use an abbreviation. e.g. if I was teaching Developmental Psychology, I might use "DP:" or "DevPsy". Fast, easy, saves space and is actually very helpful. I actaully started using the same process with calendar appointments (makes it very easy to search for all appointments associated with a particular class or project).
Hope this is helpful.
Thanks
Thank you for this nice advice, I must say that until now I've not really used the places. But for this, it comes in handy.
