Syncing - updating from either iPod touch OR Laptop

GavBelcher's picture

Hi all,

I am trying to use Life Balance to help with the shifting/competing/chaotic priorities of ADHD and as yet there's something I haven't worked out yet. I would like to be able to update my accomplishments, add tasks and move things etc on either the iPod Touch or the laptop. So, for example, if I happen to be on the laptop, I would like to be able to tick that I have done something, whilst, if I happen to be out having coffee with my iPod Touch, I would like to be able to tick that I have, say, read a chapter of a book or made a phone call. I would then like to be able to sync the Life Balance files and have the most recent changes mesh, if that makes sense, so that, perhaps I may have ticked one thing on the PC, and one other thing on the iPod, but each newest change gets updated, rather than either the iPod or the Laptop invariably having priority.

I don't know if I am making sense but if anyone understands what I mean could they let me know if this is possible, or if I will have to always more or less update and change things on one or other platform.

Thanks

Syncing - changes on 2 different devices.

Hi GB,
I hope you haven't given up on LB since no one has responded to your request in over a month. Maybe you figured out the answer already?

In short yes. As long as you change a given LB task in only one location, laptop or iphone, at a time then the sync will work properly. You can mark some tasks complete on the phone and edit other tasks on the computer. Of course you won't see the changes on the other device until you sync. But then afterwards both devices should reflect the same information.

If you happen to make changes to the same item on both devices before a sync, LB will identify the conflict on the computer. Unfortunately the conflict resolver doesn't actually show you what the conflicting information is. You will have to look at both devices side by side and see if you can figure out which one you want or how to manually merge the information. I hope the llamas get this fixed eventually.

Best wishes,
Steven

Thanks Steven,

Ha, well I perservered with LB as much as I persevere with anything. That is, it dropped off the radar for a while before cycling round again many months later. Belated thanks for your reply. I'm back on it with LB again now, reading David Allen's Getting Things Done and trying to set up a manageable system for myself. I'm sure to be posting a few more questions soon. Love the software but I'm trying to work out the best way to use it for me.

Thanks again,

GB
