OS4 sync issues with PC
Downloaded OS4 yesterday and then started to have issues syncing the laptop with the i-phone. Are other users havingthe same issues?
i-phone message reads "List of remote documents could not be retrieved. Please check your network firewall settings".
I have turned off the firewall on the laptop with no success.
Other comments welcomed.

Me too
My situation was not exactly the same as I was attempting to resolve an 'edit time events' crash by reinstalling LB on my iPod touch. I turned off my firewall and synced, then turned on the firewall again and it was fine. The only thing that I notice now is that the sync process takes more time now. Perhaps you have more than one firewall such as your router? Just a shot in the dark.

Yes, I have also not yet
Yes, I have also not yet figured out how to get the sync working since updating the iPhone to OS4. I can see the laptop from Life Balance on the iPhone, but not see the files within Life Balance.
We are not seeing that... and something else to try...
Details, please? Which phone did you upgrade, from what? What desktop version of Life Balance are you using, etc. We have tested sync here on an upgraded phone and all is well, and yet we do have some scattered reports of problems after iOS4 upgrades that we are investigating.
Of course, we also need you to go through some of the standard stuff too:
http://www.llamagraphics.com/support/iPhone-Windows-sync.html
In addition to that, here is something else to try.
In the settings app on the phone, under "general," at the bottom of the general panel there is a "reset" feature, and in that panel, there is a Reset Network Settings button.
You may need to know and reenter your WiFi password after the reset.
Research on the internet shows that some folks have reported that has fixed other mysterious network issues after upgrading to iOS4.
Please let us know if that helps, too, and we'll add it to the interactive page of iPhone/Windows sync troubleshooting tips.
Best wishes,

Similar problem with no solution
Running LB desktop vers 5.2.1 on Windows 7 Operating system.
iphone 3G running OS4.
Can't get sync operation to work for the last 2 weeks. Have tried at home and work with same result.
When syncing it finds the laptop on the server but then when going through the next step 'sync with file' an error message appears 'Network Error'.
I have turned the firewall off and on to no avail.
Any ideas out there in LLama land?
Mark
We found the synching problem...
The synching problem that some folks are seeing involves three factors.
1) You have a device running iOS 3.2 or iOS 4, which is iPad or iPhone 4
2) You have Windows desktop with Windows firewall (possibly other firewall software) installed
3) Running on a wireless network that is using IPv6
We have a fix for it in our code now that we are about to test with customers, and we will release it to you as soon as possible.
In the meantime, one possible workaround is that if you are on a private network that is protected from the internet at large, you can turn off the firewall long enough to the do the sync, and then turn the firewall back on again, otherwise you will need to wait for us to post the fix.
I hope that is helpful and clear.
More soon,

Not just PCs. It happens syncing iPod Touch iOS4 with a MAC
I am running a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MAC with OS X 10.6.4
I have a 3rd gen iPod Touch running iOS 4.0 (8A293)
I have not been able to sync since roughly around the time I installed iOS4 on the iPod. I did not notice immediately since I didn't use Lifebalance for a little while after the upgrade.
The short term fix is the same for PCs. If you can disconnect your LAN from the internet and turn off your firewall, the iPod/iPhone will sync with your MAC
Yes... Macs too, but less common...
Hi there,
Yes, this does also happen on the Mac as well. It is somewhat less common than on Windows. The default settings for the Mac firewall are okay with the sync. If you have turned on "Stealth mode" that interferes with the desktop's ability to notice that IPv6 is unavailable and shift back to IPv4.
We have an update nearly ready to take care of that... so keep a watch for that. It will be coming soon to a Llamagraphics web site near you!
Thanks to all for your patience and clear reports which helped us track down this stealthy problem, too. :-)
Best wishes,

syncing issues - interim fix
Hi everyone,
Catherine. Thanks for the update with a fix being tested.
I have found an interim fix where the iphone is ready to sync with the server I allocate an IP address and then it recognises the file and syncs OK.
Bit of a problem when you have a floating IP address, as you need to change it all the time, but at least it works.
This is with all the firewall settings on.
I also noticed that the Bonjour settings in the windows firewall were not ticked for Domain, Home and public (as well as for life balance). This could have been a change from OS4, but I am not sure.
Good luck.
Mark
Yes, this is a change from iOS 4
Yes, this is a change from iOS 4, and what you describe would also be a good workaround.
Thanks for sharing that for the benefit of others who encounter this.
So far the permanent fix also seems to be working for the folks testing the beta, and we expect to send that off to Apple this week sometime, if all goes well.
Knocking on wood.. and avoiding knocking over plants and coffee tables on the way to the App approval process. That is to say we are doing what we need to do both carefully and with greatest speed possible.
Best wishes, and thanks again!

I fixed mine
I had the same problem as Mark (LB Matters) and could not sync to my new Win 7 Laptop. However, a few days later (today) I was unable to connect my laptop as well as another one to my wireless router. I found that WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) was enabled on the wireless router and had an error. After disabling WPS, (I also disabled IPv6 on my PC, but I don't think that mattered) I tried the LB sync again and it worked!!!
We'll see if it sticks. So far in my case it seems the issue was with my network, not the LB software.

iPv6... is the issue
iPv6 is exactly the issue... so turning that off would have worked around the problem.
Best wishes, and thanks for posting!

Update Please.
Catherine is there an update to this issue, I am still suffering from the same issue.

Where to download?
Hi Catherine,
Where is this update found? The date on 5.3.9 for Windows is August. I have the latest iPhone version - 5.3 (6) - and am seeing this problem.
Downloads are here
Downloads are located here on our web site:
http://www.llamagraphics.com/downloads/index.html
Those are always the current releases.
5.3.8 for Windows is the latest. There is a 5.3.9 for Mac.
I am doubtful that you are seeing the same problem, but I am happy to look into it to see if there is something else going on.
You will want to open a ticket from the link on the left on the page over here:

We can delve into it.
Best wishes,

iPv6/iOS4/something sync trouble
I tried again to reproduce the problem and now it's working. I'm not 100% sure what I did to fix it. Possibilities
1) Turned off ipv6 - though I had already done that. Maybe something changed
2) Removed Lifebalance from the Windows Firewall list and re-added it.
3) Removed the sync config on the iPhone and re-added it
I'm not sure which of those fixed it but potentially one of them did. I'm suspecting #2.
iPad with iOS4 sync with PC
I syncing to Life Balance for Windows, Life Balance is running and Life Balance outline is displayed. BonJour is also running (taskmanager).
The desktop is the current version of Life Balance for Windows 5.3.8 with license. The 'Enable iPhone Sync' is marked.
On my iPad is running the current version of Life Balance Version 5.3 (6).
I am using a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH WLAN Router in Bridge Mode. All Settings are done manually without any automatic for full control. The Network connection seems to be OK.
When I select the networking tab on the iPad and then "Receive" or "Sync", my PC's name appears in the list of servers, but when I select it, nothing happens for a while and then I see: "The list of remote documents could not be retrieved. Please check your network firewall settings"
The PC's firewall is set to allow incoming connections to both the"Life Balance" app and Bonjour for "All". On the PC the IPV6 protocol is disabled. It happens even when I turn off the firewall.
In the forum you talked about a fix coming soon. When will the fix be available?
Can you run WireShark?
We can eliminate a few things for you. The network router and Bonjour is working.
The latest download added support for IPv6, which fixes sync to iPad 3.2 and iOS 4 devices when a desktop firewall is in stealth mode.
We have recently had one report similar to yours, where the answer was that the person ultimately realized that they had more than one firewall program installed on the PC.
If there is not a second firewall, then we will likely need to do some investigating to figure out the source of the problem in your set up.
If you have Admin access to the PC, then probably the most powerful debugging tool we have for this is the free program called WireShark, which will log network traffic in both directions. This helped us to track down the iPV6 problem.
We can send you instructions for how to make a WireShark log of Life Balance, if that is a possibility for you. If that is not possible, we may be able to send you a debug build of Life Balance for Windows that would enable additional logging messages, but the WireShark log would be better.
Let us know.
Best wishes,

WireShark
Thanks for your help.
I only know that I have the Microsoft firewall installed. Do you know how I can shurely check if there is an other one active?
Nevertheless I try to install WireShark and send you the network log.
How to tell if there is more than one firewall..
Good Question!
Here is one answer to how to tell if there is more than one firewall that I just stumbled across via Google.
"You can check here to see what Firewalls are installed on your computer and if you see more than one justclick the green light to turn one off. Go to Start> Control Panel> Click on Security, once that window open up click on ‘Security Center’ below that click on ‘Check this computer security status’ you will see ‘Firewall’ obsite of the firewall click on the small arrow next to the ‘On’ green light once you click on the arrow a small window will open up letting you see what firewalls that are installed on your computer, once you see how many just turn windows firewall off by clicking on that green light button, or if you want to keep windows firewall you you will have to go to the source of the other firewall to turn it off from there. More than likely it is your antivirus program that is running their firewall and you can turn it off in the security center. Good Luck"
I hope that is helpful...
Best wishes,

I fixed it for me
I did a deeper network analysis. Afterwards I used WireShark to log the Life Balance conversation.
I saw despite of Life Balance on the iPAD found the "server" that the IP traffic did not gone through. The reason was my Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH WLAN Router.
I changed the Operating System on the router to DD-WRT and configured a bridge between the WAN and LAN interface. That solved the problem for me.
I use the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security on my Windows VISTA 64 System. There you must set three profiles domain, private and public. In my case that was not the source of the problem.
Thanks for your tips and I wish you a Happy New Year!
Thanks for the extra information!
Happy New Year to you too!
Thank you for the extra information. I am glad to know how you resolved the problem you were seeing, which was somewhat mysterious from our vantage point!
Best wishes for a great 2011!
