Parent tasks and the to-do list

Hi,

Two-part inquiry related to each other...

Sometimes a sub-task does not need to show up in the to-do list as it's really more of a heading, for example "Miscellaneous Errands". However, once I've completed whatever things I've listed for miscellaneous errands, the heading shows up in the to-do list.

What's worked for me so far is creating a "place" called "invisible place" and making it 'always closed' then assigning it as the place of the heading, then just keeping "Include closed places" on the to-do list unchecked.

Am I overcomplicating things and missing a simpler way to organize and otherwise deal with a task that's not really a task in and of itself?

Similarly, say I have a main subtask of "best friend's visit" (under "stay connected with friends") and under that I have a list of tasks to be completed in preparation for my friends visit. I want the dates of the friends visit to show up in my calendar so for "best friend's visit" I assign a calendar time to it. But now all the subtasks also are dated. I don't want the subtasks to be dated as they happen long before the actual visit. Any fix for this? So far the only thing I can come up with for that one is to make two separate tasks, one for "best friend's visit dates" as a stand-alone and assigned to the calendar, and another called "best friend's visit to-do's". This adds unnecessary clutter though.

Any help is appreciated!
:-)

Part 1: The way you have it

Part 1:
The way you have it set is how I had it. I've since changed to let Misc Errands showed up in the To Do List. I have it as "No More Errands?". When that show up on the To Do List, it prompt me to review and confirm no errands. That actually works better for projects but you get the idea.

Part 2:
I am not sure why all your subtasks became Calendar items. I tried your scenario on my Treo and the subtasks can have their own time selection.

This is one area I have to

This is one area I have to give props to OmniFocus. Currently under each task, in small print (Think mail preview font) they list the parent task. That goes a long way in helping sort through things.

On the other hand, where LB wins hands down over any of the others is actually wrapping the task, instead of truncating it. That to me is essential.
