Windows XP installation
I am evaluating LB for my needs, which include a Palm, a Mac (at home) and Windows XP (at work). Palm and Mac are no problem. Windows may be one.
I understand that I need the .NET framework but I don't know what this implies. I don't know much about Windows actually. I am not supposed to install anything on my work machine. Palm desktop is tolerated, but anything major may not be. If I install anything and then have problems, I'll be told it is my fault for installing personal software. And I'll be encouraged to delete it.
So, the question is, what does installing this framework mean? Is there any chance that it will do anything bad to my system? My machine is "secured" meaning that I have an ID card that I have to insert and a code I must enter to get access to the machine at all.

RE: Windows XP installation
The chances are that you already have it installed. .NET is basically a set of services provided by Microsoft and used by several programs. I don't know of any way of checking if it is installed other than going Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and checking if you have Microsoft .NET Framework in the list. It may be possible to install it without it appearing in the list, but I don't think so.

RE: Windows XP installation
I'll check tomorrow at work. If I don't see anything, what should I do? If I try to install LB and the framework is not there, will LB just exit or will it try to install .NET automatically?

RE: Windows XP installation
Ok, so I checked my Windows system today at work. Nothing that remotely looks like .NET anywhere. Meaning nothing in the add or remove programs control panel, no file or folder with .net or dotnet in the name. Which may not mean much.
Maybe if I knew the exact name of a file that is specific to the framework I could locate it.
Or maybe I should just stop worrying and install it. But... I installed a recent version of Acrobat reader and had to uninstall it and reinstall the older version because of various incompatibilities with old or inhouse software I have to use. So I'm a bit reluctant to fiddle with a system I don't feel at ease with.
Oh, yes, another possible issue: the system is a French one. I don't know if this matters or not. I'll be using the English version of LB anyway.

RE: Windows XP installation
I may be talking to myself, but who knows, somebody may be interested in how I'm doing. Today I decided to stop worrying and do it. I launched the LB install file and it spouted some gibberish that I interpreted as "there is a problem here, I can't install myself". So I then installed the two .NET files provided on this site. No problem at all. Then I installed LB and this time, no problem either. Custom install: just the desktop and the conduit, as I'm already using the Palm version
I then had to leave for a meeting... and couldn't go all the way and transfer my LB file from the Palm to the PC. That's for tomorrow.

RE: Windows XP installation
Congratulations, and good luck with the data!
RE: Windows XP installation
Today I transferred all the data from the Palm to the Windows desktop app, as detailed in the Advice book: create an empty file and synchronize with "Palm overwrites desktop". It worked nicely except for one strange thing. The file opened with the calendar filling the window completely, so the other two panes weren't visible at all. I really didn't understand what was happening and it took me a while to figure it out. Of course after that it was easy to fix
