LB Windows loading document at startup?

Hi,

When LB starts, it by default opens the file that was open when it was closed. However, I just noticed something strange:

I'm running LB from two different computers, at home and at work. My tasks are saved to a network drive which is mounted on both computers. What just happened was that I saved my document at home as "G:\patriks life.lbd" and closed LB. Then I started LB at work, and it said that it was using "patriks life.ldb" in the window title. I made some edits and saved the file. Then I noticed that the edits I had made at home were not present! Looking in the G: directory, there is now "patriks life.ldb" and "patriks life-1.ldb" (which is new).

So, first: LB did apparently NOT read the file that was named in the title bar when it started, but instead must have gotten the state from when it was shut down from somewhere else. (where??)

Second: LB has silently started to use a new document when saving, without indicating so in the window title bar or displaying a message when saving.

Both of these behaviors seem less than desireable to me. How do I make sure LB reads the tasks from the file and continues to use the file it loaded?

Thanks,

/Patrik

Autosave file gets the dash

cewhite's picture

Hi there Patrik,

I think that part of what you are seeing is that Life Balance does an autosave on your data. When it does an autosave, you get the "-1" at the end of the filename. However that file generally goes away when the document is saved normally. If Life Balance crashes, it is supposed to ask you if you want to open the autosave file.

There may also be an issue with the local machine not updating its view of your networked drive often enough.

Opening the folder for the network drive, and hitting F5 to refresh it may force that to update.

I asked Stuart about this one too, and neither one of us is really certain that we fully understand it. If you have other details that would help us figure it out, do let us know. We would like to be able to answer more definitively.

Best wishes,
