Import problems on Palm and Desktop together

I've got an import/export problem.

The import/export works properly if I move items out of the Inbox place on the Palm side, but if I move Inbox items using the Desktop, they stay in the native application.

I've got my Palm set up like this (I'm quoting a very old Ratz post because he explained it so well...)

<Begin quote>
1) Enable Import/Export and Disable Deletions
2) Import all your todo categories to a single place like inbox.
3) Have export configured so that only the inbox place export
back to the todos.

If you do that todos will go into LB, and once you move them to a place other than inbox, they'll get deleted from the todo app; but remain in LB. <End quote>

I've used this for a long time, and it worked beautifully until just recently. Now, not so much.

I know that in order for items to be deleted from the native app after I move them in the desktop, I need to run a Hotsync and open LB on the Palm at least once, because the Palm itself is the conduit that syncs LB desktop with the native ToDo application. (At least, that's how I think it works.)

After running the sync and opening LB on the palm, the ToDo items that I've moved are still in the native ToDo, with LB numbers attached to them. Once an item in the native ToDo has an LB number, if I don't see it in my LB inbox, I can delete it from the native app. and it stays in LB. But I have to delete it manually--the import/export won't do it for me.

I'm not positive how long this has been going on. I only use the native app. as a quick-entry point and don't pay it a lot of attention otherwise. But I think it might have started when my computer crashed a few months ago and everything had to be reinstalled. That's the only thing I can think of that's happened lately that affected LB desktop.

When I noticed about two weeks ago that my native ToDo was kinda full, I double-checked the import/export settings and did a Palm-side test. It worked fine, and I thought I'd just had something set wrong. Then they started building up again, and I finally realized that it was the desktop.

I did install the latest upgrades of both desktop and Palm LB, on the off chance that they might make a difference, but it doesn't seem to have changed things.

I'm not sure where to go from here solving this problem. Can someone help?
