Complete tasks in order and mixed time settings
Posted October 18th, 2006 by sivan
I have a task with a few sub-tasks. I checked to complete tasks in order.
I have a couple of sub-tasks that have a time setting of 'once'. The third sub-task has a due-date. The last sub-task is set to once.
Now as I'm waiting for the due date on the third sub-task, the fourth sub-task is showing as over-due. This is of course wrong. It's supposed to wait until the third, by-due-date task is fulfilled.

Yes, this doesn't sound like the correct behavior. I do have some questions.
For the parent task, is it set to Happens: once? Is the fourth sub-task the same as the last sub-task? Tasks set to Happens: once should never show up as Overdue as they have no due date. Are you sure the fourth sub-task is set to once? Is the fourth sub-task showing up on the ToDO List or only on the outline?

Parent task: routinely (annual), complete subtasks in order
--subtask 1: once (check feasibility)
--subtask 2: once (schedule meeting)
--subtask 3: by date book (meeting)
--subtask 4: by date book (follow-up)
--subtask 5: by due date (waiting on response by due date)
--subtask 6: once (conclude)
Subtask 6 was overdue before the due date on subtask 5.
RE: Complete tasks in order and mixed time settings
Thanks. I see what's going on. "Once" tasks effectively inherit the Happens behavior of their parents. "Complete subtasks in order" only controls when the subtasks show up on the ToDo List. So subtask 6 shows up in the outline as Overdue because Parent task is overdue. However, only subtask 5 will show up in the ToDo List and not until you check subtask 5 off will subtask 6 show up in the ToDo List. Make sense?
