Will LB ever be available on other platforms such as Blackberry?

Hi all. I love LB, but now find myself using it less due to my switching to a BBerry 8300 for traveling. I've tried to find something similar on it, but predictably nothing has the beauty of LB.

Do any of you have any suggestions for my situation and ideas for how to incorporate LB to my BBerry routine?

I know I may be reaching, but I'd hate to switch to another app and hate to not have my lists and categories handy when I'm out.

Thanks a lot...

New platform, yes... but iPhone not Blackberry...

Hi there Jose Luis,

We are sympathetic to your situation.

Sorry to have to say "no" to Blackberry at the moment. It does not mean that Blackberry won't ever happen. (There are technical concerns on Blackberry that I won't go into now.) However, one thing is always certain... things change in techland. Blackberry could become "it" and be very attractive to us as developers somewhere down the road.

You can interpret that as... no Blackberry development is likely this week.:-)

Stuart and I simply can't develop for all platforms at once. Right now, we have chosen to focus our efforts squarely on the iPhone, as the best fit to our skills, the existing code, our interests, and the interests of many of our enthusiastic customers.

Someone here may also have specific suggestions for you on how to sync Life Balance desktop for Mac, through iCal sync services to Blackberry. Basically, if you can sync the device to iCal, then that could get you a lot of what you want in the meantime.

Best wishes,

I'm on WinXP, not Mac

Thanks for your detailed reply. I appreciate the business concerns dictating your choice of platforms. Actually, LB on iPhone might tempt me to finally give it a try...

Do you know if there is a shortcut like what you described but on the Windows platform? Can I sync LB to something and then to BBerry? Seems convoluted but I'll take it if it brings a little relief on the go...

Thanks!

What about other platforms?

Catherine,

I think your response regarding the Blackberry is spot on, but I thought it would be nice to have your thoughts on all major platforms today. I'm thinking the forum readers would really appreciate a brief rundown on your plans for Palm, Windows Mobile, Blackberry, iPhone, Symbian, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and the concept of software as a service.

To most of us, Life Balance is a killer app and its availability on a particular platform may very well be the deciding factor on a purchase.

I am still ardently hoping the growing popularity of Ubuntu Linux will persuade you to port LB to it.

Cheers,

Morel

That's nice...

Hi there Morel,

I think that the answer is pretty much the same.

We're so focused on the iPhone right now.

The rest of the platforms are like runners in a long race, their place in line can and undoubtedly will change.

I don't have to set that order in place yet, and so I don't. I just watch 'em run... and... I expect to be surprised.

Observation rather than decision.

Best wishes,

Another Blackberry request

Just wanted to put in another vote for Blackberry support. I can't justify carrying around both my personal Palm and my office Blackberry -- so alas, the Blackberry wins. Which has, unfortunately, caused me to reluctantly give up using Life Balance. Now I'm stuck with Tasks in Outlook, which of course can't even begin to compare! Guess I'll just have to hope you work on Blackberry next.

missing Windows Mobile...

Hi,

I have been using LifeBalance ever since the Apple Newton, then switched to Palm as Newton became obsolete. It is my single most favourite tool. I use both Palm and Windows versions.

Now it appears to me that the Palm platform is fading away, and I face the need to switch. Sorry, it cannot be the iPhone. Two reasons:

  • Platform seems too closed, with Apple's tight control over the Store... I cannot buy into that concept, and I will not bother with jailbreaking etc.
  • Company phone. iPhone is not an option.

So, for me, it has to be Windows Mobile. Tons of phones out there nowadays, with new devices coming out every day from Samsung, LG, HTC, Asus, and many more.

I am missing LifeBalance!

This is painful to me.

I understand and need to accept the Llamas' decision to go forward with iPhone, and further delay any Windows Mobile version. I still want Windows Mobile.

Two possible workaround come to mind:

  • Option 1: sync the Windows desktop version of Lifebalance with Outlook tasks (these in turn will sync to the WM device). That may at least give a usable workaround.
  • Option 2: run LifeBalance on WM through StyleTap - but how would those tasks sync to the desktop / Outlook?

Thanks Llamas for providing me with one of the best tools in my past 10 years.

Cheers
Max

I understand...

Hi there Max,

I do understand your sentiments. We support Life Balance for Palm OS, and we have lots of Palm based customers that still need us too. In any case, I hope you will stay open to future possibilities.

Right now, we still have to stay very very focused on launching Life Balance for iPhone.

Best wishes,
