Time planning
Posted August 8th, 2008 by dancingbrook
OK, I'm back, looking at LB again, remembering the pie charts, thinking it might help with time planning, not just task tracking.
So the observation/question/suggestion is:
How does the pie chart accurately reflect the real balance if all it does is track the number tasks and not how much time is spent on each task?
Wouldn't it be great if we could both estimate how much time is needed, track progress, and how much time is actually taken.
Or am I missing something.

Let me add I'm looking
Let me add I'm looking forward to seeing the iPhone/iPod Touch version, and hoping you'll have a Mac/iPhone package deal.
Also, is there Family Pack pricing a la iWorks or iLife.
And it would be good if LB could manage families as well as individuals, from within a single user.
Missing two concepts on the pie charts...
Hi there,
Thanks for the support for the iPhone work in progress... iTunes store policies sets the business model for how we sell iPhone software, and so there will not be bundles as such.
First concept on the pie charts to think about is that we recommend that the tasks themselves be broken down into bite size chunks so that they are roughly equivalent, or you can use the effort slider to adjust how much time/effort they count for.
Second thing is that the awarding of that effort into the pie chart is not permanent. It decays over time, so that any one task's influence over the pie chart is not going to make a permanent impact on your view of the balance. You have control over how quickly the tasks diminish. In terms of balance, it is consistency, and the habits you form that will make the most difference.
The pie charts show you the ebb and flow of where your time is being spent, and they do tend to be a pretty accurate reflection of my activities in my experience.
We do not do time tracking exactly... for purposes of time estimates for invoicing and billing for instance, if that is what you are looking for. This is more for improving the quality of your lifestyle by managing where your time goes.
Best wishes,
