Lead times on imported todo's

Hi all!

I have LB setup with todo list importing.

When I import todos with a due date, they all receive a lead time of 8 hours.

Is there any way I can influence this?

Regards,

Martin

RE: Lead times on imported todo's

Lead times is the one thing that bothers me about LB. So I'll continue to set every single task manually. However, I may have overlooked something so I'll monitor this thread to see if someone has an idea.

Hi there Ellen,

We've been thinking about your question.

Since you are also on a Mac too, as well as the Palm, Life Balance 4 for Macintosh makes it possible to make a modification like that pretty easily.

You have complete access to the task details in Applescript, so you can make all kinds of bulk changes. You could set 8 hour leadtimes to be whatever you want in Applescript, and then sync to the Palm.

And even if you are new to scripting... there are people here who may already have written such a script... I don't know... there could be sharing of scripts and expertise here any minute now.

You can even set your scripts to appear in the Script menu in the menu bar. Check out the Mac manual for the section on Applescript for more details on that stuff.

Best wishes,

This is a long-standing enhancement request. Lead time used to be two days, but people complained that they were seeing stuff too early. Personally, I don't mind that, as it is then simple to make the change to something when you see it and think "I don't need to know that yet".

The best option would be to allow users to set a default, and I know there is an ER in for that (because I submitted it!). Other options would include prompting for lead time every time, but if you imported a lot of stuff that would get tedious very quickly.

Oh yes! This is already in our database of suggestions. There are literally thousands of "long standing" feature requests that did not go into this release. Every single request represents an opportunity for us to improve and enhance the software in the future.

There IS now a way to make bulk changes on the Mac on imported tasks, and to put all kinds of extra functionality into the menu bar. If you have some initiative, it could be as easy as choosing a script from the menu that does something like "Set lead time for everything in this section to my favorite value" in the menu bar!

So, you can influence that default value (and MANY other things) on Mac. It can be done.

Not that there isn't potentially a need for preferences or a way to handle the same case somehow on Windows.

Best wishes,

I'll say that I'm sure such things can be done now with AppleScript. However, it doesn't help much if you have neither the time nor the desire to learn AppleScript. It isn't as trivial as Apple would like us to believe.

But I would be happy if someone out there would help me with it.

Cheers,
Ellen
