Angler intro & iPhone query.

Hello Catherine, I'm pleased to meet you.
When I make time for it, I am a fisherman, hence my handle -- "angler"

I live in hope that the Llamas are planning (or at least fantasizing) a version of Life Balance for iPhone and Mac. (I do realize that the Llamas are deeply engaged in creating the latest version of Life Balance. I read about the public betas, but will wait for the "real" application. )

I now live in the Great Pacific Northwest, at the eastern edge of the Vancouver WA / Portland OR metro.
After years of reasonably sedate and simple life as a [early] retired bachelor, in September 2006, I met my heart-mate, and we expect to combine our households, once her youngest graduates from high school this June.
Then, in April 2007, I had the honor to be appointed to my City Council. Council is nominally a "part time" job for which we are paid the princely sum of $450 a month. But, I keep adding duties to my portfolio -- councils, committees, boards, commissions, associations, etc. Meetings are planned on a complex schedule ("third Wednesday unless the preceding Monday is Holiday, then ...") and are often rescheduled. Along with all my relatively new engagement, I now struggle over "What to leave in. What to leave out." and how to keep track of it.

My first Life Balance platform was a Newton 120, presently a Palm m515 and Macintosh PowerBook "Pismo," both of which are due for retirement. The City's email/calendar system is Exchange based. Given the immanent replacement of my laptop and handheld, I haven't taken the time to figure out and implement a system to integrate Exchange, Entourage (Office 2004 for Mac) and Palm. I struggle with the three separate calendars. This summer, I plan a major upgrade to a new MacBook Pro and iPhone, and new or updated applications. I hope that Life Balance will make the move with me. (I don't need "immediate gratification." If i knew that there would be an iPhone version of Life Balance sometime soon, that would be good enough.)

Note: Even with the superior web support on iPhone, an "online only" version is of limited use because my coverage is "spotty" due to terrain.

A small feature that would might aid my record keeping. Many of my meetings or "tasks" require driving to- and from- or some other expenditure, which are tax deductible. I think I would find it convenient to be able to enter those "costs" as I complete tasks. Then, when I off-load completed tasks to my Mac, I could move them to Excel for categorization and processing. (This is not a "deal killer." I do commend a software designers aversion to "kitchen-sink-itis." As a friend remarked about Vista's sluggishness, "That kitchen sink is heavy!")

Thank you for your service.

Hello there "Angler" and a warm welcome to you!

Thanks so much for taking the time to introduce yourself here.

My goodness! You are doing all kinds of interesting stuff! I really appreciate you letting us know how Life Balance contributes to your time management "tackle box." A little context of what you are doing helps us so much to be able to visualize your needs, and to form a clear mental picture of our customers.... especially, the ones in hip-waders. :-)

We hear you about the iPhone... and you'll be pleased to know that we are definitely in the thick of it! It's a big project, and very interesting. I'm under non-disclosure from Apple about the development tools and such, so I can't talk too much about it though. Sorry.

Anyway, thanks again for your very nice note and for your participation here in the forums. I still have a soft place in my heart for the Newton customers for starting us out on this mobile software adventure. The Newton folks have always had a positive influence on us!

We also wish you and your intended all the best as you start your new household together this summer! Congratulations to you both, and to the new '08 graduate too!

Thanks again!
