out of synch
After synching both of my platforms of LB together (Palm and Windows), I would expect that the ToDo lists on each platform would be identical with each other, which they are not.
How could this be possible?
I have ensured that I pressed 'Update' on both sides before making the comparison, but still no luck.....
The "Balance Preferences" ("balance my effort" slider, and "reduce credit after .... days") are identical, as well as the pie charts.
I am quite dismayed, as this indicates some problem with the data that is invisible to me. I have run the "sanity checker" several times, but it is not helping, as I am still at my wits end.... :)
LLamas, do you have any idea what could be going wrong, and what I can do to trouble-shoot it?
By the way, I have been using the 2 platforms together since the release date of LB windows, but this problem only seems to have appeared recently.
Another anomally which I have noticed, which may or may not be related to this "out of synch" problem, is that I have a task, set to "routinely" every 6 months with 1 week lead time. I have used the classic "work around" for skipping the original instance (ie, setting effort to zero, checking off as completed so that the item goes to sleep until 6 months - 2 weeks have passed), yet the item keeps re-appearing on my ToDo list after Hotsynching, as if nothning has happened.
I have also noticed a few items seemingly re-appear or revert to previous versions of themselves after I have changed the text, or deleted them. I have not been able to pinpoint any of these with any accuracy, but I am sure it is happening regularly.
Please help me with any insights to this or similar problems that other users may have reported.
I am running on Windows XP, and a Palm m105 (OS 3.5, I think?). I am licensced to run LB 3.1 on both sides.
thanks,
Jeff

I guess the first question is, how different are the two lists? Are we talking something like
A
B
C
D
vs.
A
C
B
D
or are we talking
D
B
C
A
on the other platform? If it's only a minor difference like swapping the order of a few items, then it might be a matter of using floating point on the desktop vs. fixed point on the Palm. Catherine posted a little more on this in a response to another thread.
If it's major significant differences, then we'll certainly look into the problem.

One additional thing to check would be the HotSync log to see if the Life Balance conduit has reported any problems.

We've got our little llama thinkings caps on....

Okay, are you changing things primarily on the desktop or the Palm, or on both platforms? Have you had any data conflicts that you needed to resolve? If you can narrow it down to a reproducible case that would be very helpful.

We did have a problem that sounds somewhat similar during the beta program which we eventually traced to a byte-ordering problem in the conduit and fixed. I don't think we've had any similar reports since release though, but I'm sure the other llamas will chime in if they know of anything.
We may have to ask you for your data to figure this one out. Let us know if you can think of anything else that might be related.
Thanks,

Hi,
not sure if this is the right place to post, but i'm having a similar problem.

I have to say Duh! Just discovered what my problem is. The palm was seeing all tasks as it was set to view open and closed, while the desktop viewed only open...
sorted!

Re: Out of Sync Solved!
Hi Joe,
Good work!
That would have been the next suggestion - there are a couple of others, like look at the Hot Sync log and see if there are any messages, look at the conduit settings and see if you are actually syncing with the file you think you are (this happens!) and look at the clocks on both machines.
Thanks for letting us know what the solution was!

...and a quick thank you from me too for letting us know what happened.
Keeping an open "beginner's mind" is definitely a real treasure, and your llamas are always so grateful when a potentially odd sounding problem turns out to be an "easy one."
