Hotsync hangs at the end
Posted December 4th, 2005 by Desultory
I just started playing with LB, and so far I'm loving it. However...
My hotsync between the desktop and palm works fine, but sometimes the last task gets stuck. I fear my venerable Palm Vx is showing its age. It sits there showing:
Cleaning up - please wait
until I give up and do a reset. I can live with doing the occasional reset, but maybe there's a update I should be looking for?
I have the Windows desktop on XP and a Palm Vx.
Any ideas?

RE: Hotsync hangs at the end
"Cleaning up" is a message put out by hotsync itself on the Palm after all the synchronizations have finished. It isn't (as far as I know) anything to do with LB. I am not sure what it does, but I have had it hang there myself a few times. Usually, it seems to be down to a poor connection (I have a Dell which apparently has notoriously buggy USB port handling). I have found you can usually cancel without a problem - other than that cancelling can take a long time itself.
Generally, the next hotsync works a lot quicker as there is less to do.
You could try slowing down the transfer speed for the hotsync. From the Hotsync menu, choose setup, local and set the speed. I can't remember if you need to do this on the Palm as well.
No promises, just reporting my experience.

RE: Hotsync hangs at the end
My palm hardly ever used to hang on the hotsync until I installed LB. Maybe there's more data to clean up, and if the connection is bad it's getting stuck in endless error correction.
This is a pretty old device. If it's an issue with the physical contacts, maybe it's time to clean them again.
Thanks.
PS. I was really impressed the time I forgot to close the desktop before doing a sync. LB closed itself, did the sync, and popped up again before I realized what had happened. Very cool!
