DUN - Fatal error on synching T5 - PalmOne OLERR message Outlook conduits
Posted March 3rd, 2005 by Lloyd
I'm using 3.2.6b2 on the T5 and it's giving a fatal error on synchronisation. It goes away if I turn off the LB conduit.
Update: I ran the LB Windows standalone installer and selected "repair". I restarted the computer and this seem to have fixed the problem. I am puzzled as to how the desktop software got corrupted though.

RE: Fatal error on synching T5
Update: the error's back again:
Unhandled SyncErrorCodeException thrown from \Projects-3-2-x\Life Balance\Conduit\Common\LifeBalanceConduit.cpp, line 730. Error code 0x4001.
Life Balance synchronization failed
RE: Fatal error on synching T5
I'm also having the same problem on my T5 with 3.2.6b2
2 types of errors
Unhandled SyncErrorCodeException thrown from \Projects-3-2-x\Life Balance\Conduit\Common\LifeBalanceConduit.cpp, line 730. Error code 0x4001.
Unhandled SyncErrorCodeException thrown from \Projects-3-2-x\Life Balance\Conduit\Common\LifeBalanceConduit.cpp, line 315. Error code 0x10006410.
Will now try rc3 - hope it will resolve the problem.

RE: Fatal error on synching T5
Tried v3.2.6 rc3 but it has the same problem. Reported to Llamas and hope some solution can be found soon.
RE: Fatal error on synching T5
Hi Vincent,
When you have a Hot Sync problem, please do the following so we can deal with the problem with one less email:
1. Turn off all hacks - you probably don't have any on the T5, but just in case
2. Run verify data on the Palm - again, just in case
3. Check the version number of Life Balance on the Palm - make sure you didn't accidentally revert when you ran the installer
4. Use App Info to find out the following statistics:
How many Life Balance records you have
How many Date Book records you have
How many Calendar records you have
How many Task records you have
5. Send those statistics and paste in a copy of your latest hot sync, along with your error messages to the HelpDesk and which Windows system you are running.
Paste in the whole latest section of the HotSync log - it looks as though you may have timed out, so it is important to have the entire log section.
Best wishes,

Have been too busy in the last two weeks to deal with this. I had reverted to using my Tungsten T (synching to another PC & old Palm Desktop) in the meantime. Now however, I've had to give up the second PC so now am forced to "go live" on the T5 although the problem is unresolved.
Ran Verify Data which took several HOURS in elapsed time although no errors were noted. Not sure of actual run time. When I checked back periodically I found it had switched off and had to switch device back on to continue. Is this normal?
According to Applications/Info: Calendar has 1683 records (although Date Book has 1570. DBScan meanwhile reports 1712 records. Not sure if the numbers were supposed to match?) LB has 3553 records.
Will post the other details you've requested later but how do you suggest I migrate the latest LB data over from the Tungsten T to the T5?
What I did previously was to copy the 4 LB pdb files in the backup folder of my second PC (syncing to Tungsten T) over to my first PC, then use Quickinstall to install them onto the T5. Next I hotsynced the T5 with the LB conduit set to "Synchronise" to update LB for Windows.
I had previously also tried to copy the Windows lbd file from the second PC to the first and then selecting the "desktop overwrites handheld" option on the LB conduit. But the hotsync was either taking forever or had hung because it was still "syncing" LB more than half an hour later so in the end I forcibly terminated the hotsync.
RE: Fatal error on synching T5
I should add that I tried once more to update my T5 LB data from my TT by overwriting the lbd file on my first PC (syncing to T5) with the lbd file from the second PC (syncing to TT). Then I ran hotsync with the setting "desktop overwrites handheld". The hotsync continued to the point Hotsync Manager message said "Copying from desktop" while Hotsync app on the T5 said "Synchronising date book". After 3-4 hrs of this the battery on the T5 gave up I think. (Up to this point the Hotsync Manager app blue-and-red arrow animation was still running). After plugging in and restarting the T5, I found that most of the Datebk5 entries were lost. The only entries left seemed to be those that did not have LB links.
So in the end I reverted to the method of using Quickinstall to copy the 4 pdb files from the TT (backup folder) to the T5.
Not sure if this info is of any help.

RE: Fatal error on synching T5
We replied to you with explicit instructions - to reinstall the Palm desktop - and particularly, to turn off the preference for DayNotez. Also to turn the Life Balance conduit to Do Nothing while we work on this.
The log says it can't open the DayNotez database. Turn off that preference off. Turn Life Balance's conduit to do nothing,, as we requested.
Hot sync.
Send me your hot sync log and current status through the help desk so I can work with you and track your problem.
Replying through the user forums meant that we did not see your complaint until today.
Please - stick with email so I actually get your reports.
Jean
RE: Fatal error on synching T5
Hi vn,
I've reported the same problem via email to technical support. Now I am getting both of the errors that you have seen, along with hanging hotsync and duplication of Outlook calendar entries. Have you had any luck with this, or heard from technical support?
RE: Fatal error on synching T5
Hi Lloyd
Have not resolved my problem as yet but am still corresponding with tech support. Just got back from an overseas trip and found a note with some instructions to send some files over to the Llamas. Will try that.
I don't sync to Outlook and I don't so far have the duplication of calendar entries.
Suggest you get in touch with them again.
Here's hoping that our problem is resolved soon. Otherwise this T5 "upgrade" is starting to look like a bad decision...
RE: Fatal error on synching T5
vn,
Thanks for your reply. I sent another email to technical support asking if they need any more information. I guess they have what they need.
RE: Fatal error on synching T5
Just to close this thread out, the OLERR problem is a PalmOne conduit issue having to do with the Outlook conduits that shipped with some of the new devices, not specific to Life Balance. Of course once the Calendar is messed up, the Life Balance conduit is also going to complain about that!
This knowledgebase article was extremely helpful. If you are still having this problem, we recommend that you check this out first.
http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External2001,CASE=obj(31167)
and also be sure that you have the conduit updater installed.
According to the PalmOne knowledgebase article:
"Many customers who use Tungsten T3, E, T5; Zire 31, 72; or Treo 650 devices report that this error no longer appears after they install the Outlook Conduits for palmOne Update."
which you can get here:

I hope that post is helpful to anyone else who might encounter this.

RE: Fatal error on synching T5
Just a further follow up on this one.
Vincent was still having intermittent problems synching, and sent in his data.
We've kept his ticket open for several months, trying to figure out what was going on! He recently followed up with us:
"FYI, the LB hotsync problem has gone away since I installed the palmOne T5
v1.1 OS update late last week. What a relief!"
You can get that update which was posted on June 21, 2005 from the PalmOne site here:
http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/tungstent5/tungstent5update....
Here's our reply to Vincent from the email helpdesk support center...
Hello there Vincent,
Hurray!
How funny! We were about to reply to you after we got back from lunch to update you on what we've learned from looking at the data files you sent! Today we actually found a pattern in the data that you sent!
We were able to open your latest archive of data, and we were able to determine that the Datebook data was definitely corrupted in a very unusual way.
There were notes that contained an LB number that had been copied to virtually every datebook record entry, without necessarily flipping the bit that says that there IS a note there at all. Many of the affected records appeared to be birthdays. It was like a string containing an LB number had been inserted at the end of many of your datebook records. We were in the process of trying to figure out how we might be able to repair the data when your email arrived!
I would really appreciate it if you could send us a NEW version of the Datebook.dat file from your current PalmDesktop folder to confirm that the problem is no longer there in the data file. It would be a shame to have it come back again due to earlier problems in the data.
Interesting also to see that the release notes for the PalmOne update says specifically that it relates to recurring notes and problems relating to the birthdays in the calendar!!! See this information from PalmOne:
"What is the Tungsten T5 Update v1.1?
The Tungsten T5 Update 1.1 adds enhancements that provide increased stability and reliability, as well as improved memory management on your handheld.
New in version 1.1:
Resolves problems caused when synchronizing large databases and files
Fixes problems in the Calendar relating to Birthdays or recurring notes
Fixes an issue with the Find feature and Calculator application
Provides non-volatile file system improvements
Also included from version 1.0 (released October 2004):
Fixes a problem in the Calendar that can cause a crash when the default view is changed from Agenda to Month View
Fixes an issue in Contacts when using the Menu drop down list for new entries
Adjusts the Palm OS
RE: Fatal error on synching T5
I installed the ROM update 1.1 for my T5, but still get the error:
Unhandled SyncErrorCodeException thrown from \Projects-3-2-x\Life Balance\Conduit\Common\LifeBalanceConduit.cpp, line 732. Error code 0x4001.
