How to do an iPhone to Mac sync of Life Balance in your favorite coffee house

So you're in the local coffeehouse, trying to sync Life Balance on your iPhone to your laptop. You've checked that both are on the coffeehouse WiFi network. You've gone through the little song-and-dance in your web browser to accept the coffeehouse WiFi terms and conditions so you can surf the internet. Your web browser works, email works, but Life Balance won't sync. It works at home, so why isn't it working in the coffeehouse?

Life Balance 5.0.5 for Mac OS X

Today we released Life Balance 5.0.5 for Mac OS X, which fixes several problems with the iPhone Sync Settings window. We had a couple of reports from customers who were having trouble changing the port number, and traced this to some window activation, keyboard focus and editing commit problems. The new release fixes those problems.

People who are running 5.0.4 should get the update automatically through Sparkle. If you're not running 5.0.4 or have automatic updates turned off, you can get 5.0.5 from the usual download page.

Enjoy!

Life Balance 5.0.4 for Mac and Windows, update for iPhone app submitted

Thanks to our intrepid set of volunteer testers, Life Balance 5.0.4 is now available for Mac OS X and Windows. The corresponding release of the new iPhone version of Life Balance will also be submitted today and will be available for download exclusively from the iPhone App Store. Typically, it takes about a week for Apple to approve updates. We will post another announcement with the list of changes for iPhone users when the new version appears on the iPhone App Store.

Both the Mac and Windows versions include a number of technical updates. On Mac, we've corrected a couple of problems with iCal sync, iPhone sync, and installation of the Palm conduit. On Windows we've fixed the behavior of conflict icons, corrected the order of events in the calendar views, and sped up iPhone sync dramatically.

On the Mac side, we've also added support for the Sparkle framework, which automatically downloads and installs updates to Life Balance.

New AppleScript for archiving iCal events

This Applescript will archive completed iCal to-do items and old calendar events into separate iCal calendars whose names end in "(completed)".

We've gotten feedback from some of our Macintosh customers that they would like the new iCal sync feature to only import upcoming calendar events and uncompleted to-do items, rather than importing everything in the calendar. We agree—and while we work on updating Life Balance to provide this enhancement, we thought it would be a good idea to provide you with a script to help out in the meantime.
