What to do if Life Balance says it is "searching for local servers..."

Generally the WiFi sync for Life Balance is really fast, and works great between the desktop and the iPhone.
However, if you happen to get a message on your iPhone that says that it is "searching for local servers," that most often means that the iPhone and the desktop computer are on DIFFERENT local area networks.
The iPhone is not "hearing" the desktop as it is "broadcasting" that it is out there trying to make the connection, because it is on a different WiFi network.
To deal with that, make sure that both sides of the sync are communicating on the same network. This can be a matter of just choosing the WiFi connection on the iPhone. For instance, you may want to make sure you are using your home WiFi, and not your neighbor's.
Sometimes if you are using your home WiFi correctly, it could be a sign that your home wifi is not configured correctly. This often happens if there are two network boxes at home, one from a cable company and one to provide WiFi, and they may not be talking to each other. In that situation, you may have to set the wifi router to be in "bridge mode."
You may also want to use the new "manual" settings on Life Balance v5.1 for the iPhone to use a particular IP address for the desktop. This can simplify communication, and removes the need to get both the iPhone and the desktop on the same local network. Be sure to check the documentation for v5.1 for the details:

Hope this is clear, and helpful to you as you get Life Balance set up to sync.

Much of it is applicable to Mac as well.
Thanks
Thanks for a great explanation. This problem bothers a lot of people. Well, it is so difficult to understand what it means to use WiFi correctly. Looking for some more information about it I've found a very interesting video at rapidshare SE http://rapidpedia.com .
