No ROM, no support?

There are a number of Palm OS licensees (Sony, Kyocera) who do not always provide developers with the "ROM" files that they need to load into the simulator or emulator to test applications against the hardware.

They have their reasons for not wanting to do that. However, that leaves us with our customer, BC, who has a problem on his handheld phone PDA, a Kyocera 7135, which seems to have developed some kind of wierd problem between Life Balance and Tetris. We did a quick test of Life Balance with the downloadable Tetris on an i705, and all seems to be well, so what's up? The only way we can think of to tell what is happening is to load up the default Kyocera ROM and get that under the debugger.

So, do we have to buy a Kyocera 7135 to be able to help BC play Tetris? Should we tell him that we don't support the 7135, because Kyocera doesn't support developers adequately? All in all, I wish that all licensees were required by PalmSource to provide ROM files to the developers for all shipping devices.

We can't do tech support without the ROM files. So, now Jean is playing Tetris, and not answering anybody else's questions. So that's a solution too ! :-)
