This week, I've been stricken with a clear case of New England Winter Wanderlust, as is my snowbird nature. When the days get short, I want to get away. Unfortunately, we have Life Balance software to finish writing, and a trip around the world will have to wait until sometime after we have the Palm version ready to go.
In the meantime, we are happy to recommend any of the Michael Palin travel series (some are hard to find) which fall neatly into our LlamaLlink tradition of Lleading by example. Michael Palin, of Monty Python fame, goes on a trip from the North Pole to the South Pole in Pole to Pole travelling by snowmobile, boats, trains and jeeps along a Meridian that crosses through Finland, Russia and Africa where he intends to catch a boat to Antarctica that only sails once a year.
Perhaps it should be no surprise that Michael Palin can make people smile wherever he goes, regardless of language or cultural barriors, but it is charming to watch him interact with rowdy Soccer fans in Finland and a witchdoctor in Africa with equal aplomb. If you need a refresher course in how to get along with people, or just want to enjoy the wonders of the world, these are just the transcontinental ticket. In Around the World in 80 Days, Mr. Palin went around latitudinally, recreating the travels of Phileas Fogg in the classic Jules Verne book. In Full Circle, he takes off again to travel around the Pacific Rim. Don't miss the encounters with llamas in South America! These are wonderful videos that we turn to again and again whenever the Cable TV offerings are disappointing or we get an unfufillable urge to go walkabout. |
