I first saw Nick Stellino not on his PBS show Cucina Amore, but on CBS's Morning show on a "Chef on Shoestring" spot. I downloaded his recipe for pasta with white mushrooms, and was swept away with how lovely it turned out. I have since let this recipe weave its garlicky spell many times for friends, and my guests leave with that blissful expression that indicates that they feel well cared for and deeply grateful to have spent the evening around our dinner table. So, egged on by such overwhelming gustatory success, I got the new book, Mediterranean Flavors. I was not disappointed. The recipes are easy to follow, creative, beautiful and most importantly delicious.
Many cookbooks do not have much personality, but this one reflects Nick's Stellino's warmth and his genuinely romantic spirit with tales of great meals with family and friends interwoven among the recipes. For our LlamaLlink, we pick "The world is big and life is short" in which Nick Stellino drowns his broken heart in Greek Baklava provided by a kind waiter.
Wonderful meals shared with people you care about remain one of life's true joys. Cook something from this book for someone you Llove.
